GOLDEN FLEECE EXTENDED.
The battery started on Monday last, but owing to the scarcity of water operations at the battery had to be conducted with great care, in order to spin out the supply. The usual weekly scraping of the top plates took place this afternoon, when the excellent return of 2340z. of amalgam was obtained, the quantity of stone passed through having been 110 tons. The company have accepted the tender of the Despatch Foundry Company, Greymouth, for the construction of the much needed second air-compressor, and the contract is now under way. The work will be pushed forward with all possible speed, and upon the execution of the order and the landing of the compressor on the works the Fleece mine will be one of the most efficiently furnished mines in New Zealand. The two rock-borers, the diamond drill and air-winch can then bo kept going simultaneously, and the economy aud speed which this machinery will effect in the general working of the mine will no doubt produce excellent results during the incoming year.
