' (from our own correspondent.) Wellington, 26. No newspapers have been published since Saturday, and there is in consequence a complete dearth of news. The Foresters' fete was the principal source of attraction hereto day, but the events were of purely local interest. The Lady Jocelyn was berthed today to receive the first shipment of frozen meat shipped from this port. Christchurch, 26. Several hundred excursionists left by special train on Saturday night, for Dunedin and Kingston, and an almost equally large number arrived by special train from the South on Sunday morning. The sports at Hagley park were very successful. Christchurch 27. The Colonial Secretary has replied to the Railway League that a full enquiry into the West Coast routes will be made either by the present Commission or another one. A conference of local bodies is to be held next month to consider the best means of augmenting the Government grant for charitable aid. At a meeting of the Selwyn county Council to-day the following reso- , lution was unanimously passed "that thit council forward a letter to the Minister for Land urging upon him the necessity for making large and substantial reserves for hospital and charitable aid purposes the colony at ' once in anticipation of the legislation of next session. 300ozs. of gold from 400 tons of quartz to-day. Wellington, 28, ! Sir Julius Yogel was entertained I at a complimentary banquet iO-day . which was tendered at the drill shed by the citizens of Wellington. The banquet assumed the form of a midday luncheon.
