It is reported that the Premier, the Hon Mr Gladstone is seriously indisposed, Dr. Clarke, the Premier's medical adviser, has been summoned to Ha warden.
The Right Hon. Dr Playfair has resigned office as Chairman of Committees in the House of Commons.
Madrid, 6.
The Spanish Ministry has resigned, a split in the Cabinet having occurred upon a question of finance.
Paris, 6.
It is announced that the remains of the late General Chancy will be accorded a public funeral at the expense of the State.
Sydney, 8.
The Marine Board enquiry into circumstances connected with the wreck of the steamship New England at Clarence Heads on the 27th ultimo, concluded to-day, The Court found that tbe vessel was lost through the negligence of pilot Smith, and ordetcd his certificate should be cancelled.

It lias been ascertained that Mr, Gladstone's indisposition has arisen from overwork, and his medical adviser has recommended complete v9st. Mr Gladstone Los consequently abandoned his political tour in Midlothian.
A collision occurred to-day in the Mersey, between the Inman line steamer City of Brussels, and another vessel. The former sank in deep water shortly after tae collision and ten persons were drowned.

Sir W. Jervois left last night by the P. and O. steamer Clyde. Several farewell addresses were presented to His Excellency before his departure. Chief Justice Hay has assumed the Acting Governorship.

The entries for the Australian Cup and Newmarket Handicap, to be run at the V.R.C- Autumn meeting, in March next, are somewhat below the average. The numbers are 42 horses for the Cnp and 7»)> for the Handicap. -■ -^W —
