The failure of the Victorian loan in London is attributed 1 to the high minimum which is believed to have doterred wholesale application. But it is stated that the Colonial Treasurer is hopeful that the balance of the loan will be subscribed by Monday next.
The local press condemn the delay which occurred in issuing the loan, thus losing a favorable opportunity in the London market.
Lady Jervois is at present indisposed, and will remain on board the steamer Clyde instead of proceeding overland to Sydney.

The re-election for East Sydney of G. H. Reid, Ministsr of Public Instruction, will be opposed by Mr Alfred Elkington.
The programme which is about to be laid before the Legislative Assembly by the new Government embraces amendment of the Land laws and Civil Service Act, reform of the criminal law, and provision for a larger measure of local kelf-Govern-meut.

A serious fire occurred to,day at one of the leading hotels at Milwaukee, Winconsin. The building was completely destroyed and twenty-six persons perished in the flames. C lombo. 10.
