Other corps will be sworn in this week The Harbour Board have given their engineer Mr Napier Bell a present of £250 in recognition of his services in connection with the dock. Dunedin, 15. This afternoon two lads employed in a butcher's shop at Port Chalmers had a quarrel about a knife, and the dispute ended in one named White drawing the knife through the thigh of the other named Hannock. White was arrested and expresses sorrow for his action. TIMAKU, 15. At a meeting of the Harbor Board to-day " in connection with the loan of £100,000, it was resolved that the minimum rate for the loan be £98 for £100, and the interest be 5 per cent, payable half-yearly, in London, Australia, and New Zealand, the loan to be repayable on the 31st December 1913, debentures to be fixed at £100. The Insurance Association have decided to reduce the rates on vessels loading for Home inside the Thnaru breakwater from 475, 6d, to 375, Gd, thus making them in reality the same as at Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and other principal ports, with the current coastal rate. Napier, 15. The value of exports from Napier for 1882 was £613,374, against £40, 848 for the previous year, this does not take into account the large quantity of wool etc., shipped coastwise to Wellington. Auckland, 15. Sergeant Martin and Detective Strathearn continued their search in the steamer Wellington to-day for plants of the late jewellery robbery on board that vessel. Further deposits were discovered in the bilge water, in the shaft and funnel. There is still £300 worth undiscovered. The wheat crop is turning out splendidly in the districts near Auckland, realising on many farms 40 bushels to the acre. 16. Great interest was taken here in a race between the Union steamer Manapouri and the mail steamer City of Sydney last Tuesday evening. A special cable message from a passenger to the Star, shows that reckoning the difference in time of departure from Auckland, the vessels reached Sydney within five minutes of each other, both doing the distance in four days two hours, at an average of a small fraction over 13 knots an hour. Wellington, 16. The new governor is expected to arrive here on Friday. Great preparations ai*e being made for his reception. ~e comes direct from Sydney per Wakatipu.
