The former fell back after traversing half the distance, but Adamant maintained his position Respite the vigorous efforts made by Salvage, who was beaten by a short head. CIIRISTCHURCn", 21. The Governor visited to-day the Lyttelton borough schools the gaol and the orphanage, lie was entertained at luncheon on board the p.s. Lyttelton by the Harbor Board, and subsequently made a thorough inspection of the harbour. The Governor was entertained by the Mayor of Christchurch at a banquet to-night, and 80 people were present. Auckland, 22. The Presbyterian Church General Assembly this morning were engaged in considering the case of the 'Rev Mr Fraser, of Christchurch. The proceedings wore conductrd with closed doors, the press being excluded. Wellington, 22. The ship Lady Jocelyn sails' from here with the first cargo of frozen meat shipped from this port.
