In the E.M, Court to-day a firm of printers, two photographers, and a bookseller were charged with a breach of the Copyright Act in having sold photographs marked copyright registered. Mr Brandon, the Registrar of Copyrights, prosecuted, and was severely crQS^Xjtnuffi;cl. Judgment reserved. Napier Feb. 27. After a long correspondence between Mr Sutton, M.H.R., as chairman of the hospital, and the Government re the maintenance of the institution, the Colonial Secretary has forwarded a cheque for £150 claimed by the Hospital Committee during the nine months ending 31st December. . Auckland, Feb. 27. The proprietors of the Onehunga Iron-works have sent to America for a plant for nine additional furnaces, to be erected before the end of the year to smelt Iron-sand. Auckland, Feb, 28. Some diamond if erous rock was brought from Eaglan by Courtney and Douglas, diamond prospecting party, which was last evening . placed in a leaden vessel containing liydrophonic acid, and sealed up, was opened to-night in the presence of witnesses. Four diamonds were taken out of the crosstots, three very small and one large, three-quarters of a carat in weight, and valued by Mr. Courtney at £2 10s. The staff was opened in a drive made 35 feet clown the face of a cliff, and 5 feet in, a few miles from Eaglan. The diamonds are to bo presented to the Museum and' placed beside those from the Kimberley diamond field, presented bp Sir Julius Yogel recently to the Museum. Invercargill, Feb. 28. An extensive conflagration broke out here at 10.80. to-night, originating in the brick, shop of Mr Dunlop, a draper, in Tay skeefc. The origin of the fire is ai mystciy. Mr Dunlop estimates his loss at £8,000, and Mr .May puts his down at £1,000. V Wanganui, Feb. 28. The little girl whose body was found on the beach on Tuesday afternoon, has been identified as the child of a woman residing in Wanganui, the father being a Chinaman. There are strong suspicions of foul play, and the mother lifts been arres.ed. The inquest will be hold to-morrow, March 1. The name of the mother of the child found drowned on Tuesday is Phoebe Voitch. She is a peculiar looking woman, 25 years of age, and Avas brought up at the E.M Court to-day on a charge of wilful murder, and remanded. The inquest is to be held 'to-morrow. Taueanga, March 1.
