(from our own correspondent.) Invercargill, 5. A man named Charlie Lloyd, recently acquitted at the Supreme Court here for indecent assault on a young girl, is now alloyed to have committed a rape on a girl of fourteen at Wamatuki. It ia said he had just previously attacked a married woman who got away. He is not yet captured. Auckland, 5. Mr Dougl is to-day deposited -at the Museum a largo diamond found by the Raglan prospecting parly. Mr Pond, the Provincial Analyist, has expressed the opinion that the stone, though a gem, is of too groat speciiic gravity to be a true diamond and thgt it is w,hat is called in the trade a" rough" diarftofid: Messrs Jales and John, jewellers pronounce it a to the jewellers test 'of scratching & ruby with satisfactory effect. Bluff, 6. Mr Henry Jones, was killed this evening while shunting a tram. The deceased fell oft' the stop of a carriage and was dragged a considerable distance. Last night a steerage passenger named Berry, threw himself overboard from the Rotomahana. A boat was at once lowered, but no signs of the body could be t'.iscovered.
