REEFTON HOSPITAL.

■ « ANNUAL REPORT. The Committee of Management, reI poi*t for. the year ended on 81st March, 1888, and presented to the subscribers on Wednesday, 4th April, 1883. Gentlemen, -In presenting the eleventh annual report to the subscribers, we -have much pleasure in stating that the financial position of the institution is in a satisfactory condition. Subscriptions and donations received during the financial year were £75 5s 61 in excess of the previous one, this is attributed to the increased amounts received from Hospital Sunday collections. Entertainments, and the. Boatman's Ball, the? amounts from miners being smaller than expected, taking into consideration Ah*', numbers of them employed in the district. The thanks of the Coinmitte are- due tt> the County Council for their donation of £70, granted in the early part of the year. During our term of office we have expended a large amount in 'improvements -to the building and grounds, viz., covering part of the first mentioned with corrugated iron, enlarging, and internal fittings for kitchen, procuring a new range for same, erecting a sbustantial fence fronting" Broadway, forming footpaths, relaying" drains, and supplying two large watertanks etc., the whole at a cost of £211 17» The institution is now in first-rate order . and will require very little outlay for*improVements for some time, and it is very satisfactory ,tw know tliat the jlnapectorof^^^ Hospitals, Dr Grab'ham, on his l»te In\b expressed himself highly pleased with our ljj[ospital, and said that it would comparefavourably with any 'other that he had visited, this in itself speaks well for tho management. . The staff work harmoniously together, and the Committee desire to testify to the; continued care of Dr Thorpe, the SurgeonSuperintendent, also the manner in which the Steward and Dispenser, and the Matron, have carried out the internal work of the institution. ■ • Patients availing themselves of the advantageß of the Hospital as in-door patients, were 39 in excess of last year. The Balance-sheet will shew- items of . receipt and expenditure. . . We commenced our financial year with a balance of £116 9s sd, and when the outstanding accounts for March are paid, and the Government Subsidy received, there will be a credit balance of £192 8s 3d, for our successors to start with. • • ■ The supplies from the various contractors are reported to have been of good quality, and satisfactorily delivered. " Appended will be found the Financial •Statement, and Surgeon-superintendents statistical report." • In conclusion, we wish to impress, upon all who have tho welfare of the Hospital at heart, the necessity of continued exertion and liberality, on their part to meet the expenditure required to m-iintain its - condition of usefulness and efficiency.
