The Inangahua Times. PUBLISHED TRI- WEEKLY. FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 1883.

The writ for the Inangahua election had not been issued up to last night, but it is thought that it will be out to-day. " Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee," is still the prayer of Mr Shaw's friends here. The Central Board of Education, Nelson, has decided to retain the services of Mr R. Chattock, aa head master of the Beef ton State Pchool, for a further period of three months, at the expiration of which date his application for transference to another school district will be considered. The new Electoral T?oll for the Inangahua has just been published, and copies are on sale. The Koll contains the names of 1901 persons, and the Supplementary 8011, to be printed during the week, will probably add another 150 or 200 names to the list, and will constitute Inangahua numerically one of the largest, if not the largest, electorates in the Colony. Mr. Gage, a member of the wel -known firm of Gage Brothers, sharebrokers, Dunedin, is at present on a visit to the Inangahua, and is making the rounds of the principal mines Mr. North, of the firm of North and Scoullars, Dunedin, a gentleman largely interested in mining investments in the field, i 3 also amongst us, gaining information relative to the position and prospects of the various mines. We have been requested to state that the following candidates have withdrawn from nomination as Hospital Committee; men : —Messrs G. C. Bowman, G. Wise J. . Thorburn, N. Ramsay, C. Edwards', and «T. Charles. The number of candidates is thus reduced to seventeen. The number of committeemen required is twelve. ' . The business brought before the annual meefing of subscribers to the Reefton Hospital -on Wednesday last was of " an entirely formal character. Mr. W. G Collings was voted to the chair, and called' -upon the secretary; <-tq read the report P&&?- jretirinj£ committee v .^s. also th^raeoTo^ officer's. reportyTjioth of which wererefeeived and adopted. ' Nominations were r then invited for the new committee, when about twenty-four names were proposed, and the poll was fixed for Wednesday next, 11th instant, at the following places :• — Reefton, Council Chambers ; Black's Point,"' Ramsay's Hotel ; Capleston, A rcher's Store. The meeting then adjourned. . ' ' A correspondent writing to us from Nelson Creek gives it aa his opinion' that Mr E. Wakefield is certain of a very large, majority in that locality. His supporters are working most energetically, and the miners as a body are thoroughly identifying themselves with his candidature. . Mr. Wakefield has already visited Abe's Gully, Red Jack's, and all the alluvial centres across to No Town, so that by the time his canvass is completed he will be personally known to nearly every miner in that portion of the electorate. His Honor Judge Broad reached Reefton on Wednesday evening last, for the purpose of opening the sittings of the District Court here on Monday next. The only important criminal case set down for hearing is that of Regina v. Hollywood, for perjury, in which an important question: of law will probably arise. It. is announced that jurors summoned to appear at the sitting of the Court on Monday will not he required to be in attendance. - Mr. E. Wakefield addressed a meeting of the electors at Ahaura on Wednesday afternoon, and was very well received, a vote of. confidence being carried unanimously. In the evening the candidate met the electors of Orwell Creek, and after speaking for about an hour and ahalf, received a unanimous vote of confidence. Mr Wakefield was to speak at Nelson Creek, last night, and is announced to .address the electors at No Town to-night, speaking at Totara Flat and Granville on Saturday, and returning here on Sunday.. We publish to-day the reports and balance-sheet of the local hospital for the past year The .number -of patients received and treated during the year seems to have been well up to the average, and although a considerable sum has been expended upon buildings and improvements, a substantial credit balance remains, with which to commence the new financial year. The i report was considered thoroughly satisfactory The' directors of the South Hopeful Company have concluded' an arrangement with ;Mr Neils Bollerslev, an experienced miner, by .which the latter undertakes to -the . prospecting drive for the 'reef fjjt a reduced. rratej on the condition of hi* receiving a borius upon striking the reef. .. MrlJollei'slev is very sanguine of intersecting payable stone within a short. (Jistajice, and under the circumstances the arrangement made is a 'mutually, satisfac.ory one. . We. have been, requested by the trustee to notify -that- the Stock of Boots and Shoes- in tins Bankrupt estate of W. J.

Shaw, is for ' Positive Sale on behalf of the ] Creditors only, and must be cleared off ■ immediately at a Great Reduction on , Cost Price. [Advt.] i
