The annual report of the Australian Mutial Provident Society for last year shows that the new business was larger than that of any previous year comprised 6,400 policies for assurances amounting to £2,280,000. The receipts from interest exceed the amounts paid for death j claims by £6,800. He however denies that he turned informer against the alleged accomplice In consequence of revelations which have been made by a prisoner now undergoing sentence of penal servitude regarding a case of murder and conspiracy at Clare, Ireland, ten persons have been arrested by the police. In the House of Commons to-day a question was put and the report as to the annexatiou of New Guiuea was confirmed by the Government. The trial of Daniel Carley, the second of the prisoners charged with the Phoenix Park murders, was commenced to-day in Dublin. On the opening of the Court eight jurors who had been summoned were found to be absent and were ordered to pay fives of one hundred pounds each.
