. Mr E. Wakefield will leave Timaru tomorrow, in time to catch the overland coach from Ohristchurch on Wednesday morning, reaching Greymoufch on Thursday evening. The -' regular monthly— meeting 'of the comniittee of the Reefton Hospital, will be held at Campbell's Southern Cross Hotel, on Wednesday evening next, at 8 p'clook. We publish to-day a list of the names of Mr. Wakefield's Black's Point Committee. The number will, however, be largely increased in our next issue. We have been requested to state that ten of the persons advertised as being members of Mr. Shaw's Black's. Point Committee are supporters of Mr. Wakefield ; another .five of the number are residents of Reefton, and two have left the district, thus reducing Mr. Shaw's Black's Point Committee to 35. The total voters on the roll for that district is 270. . ■ v A meeting of the committee of the Ralph flail Belief Fund, was held at* M'Gaffin's Hotel on Friday evening hut. Mr Potts was voted to the chair, , A letter was read from Mr T. W. Hungerford, a member of the Dunedin Benevo lent Society, in reference to Mrs Hall and family, and suggesting that the fum 1 . should be handed over to the Society who would provide an annuity to Mrs HalL After some discussion it was decided on the motion of Mr J. B. Beeche, seconded by Mr D. O. Preshaw to hand over the fund to the Dunedin Benevolent Society to be administered in the |manner stated, steps to be first taken to discharge all outstanding liabilities against Mrs Hall. It was also arranged to publish the list of subscribers, together with a balance-sheet of the fund, and which will appear in our next issue. • . . ' Mr Shaw (writes our Ahaura correspondent) held a meeting at Kilmer's Hotel last night On the motion of Mr J. W. Jones, seconded by Mr Smith, Mr Benjamin Gough was voted to the chair. Mr Gough briefly introduced the ' candidate. Mr Shaw held forth for about, an hour, and at the conclusion of the candidate's address, Mr Thomas Brooks proposed that Mr Shaw was a fit and proper person to represent this constituency in Parliament, seconded by Mr Russell, and carried. No amendment being proposed. The conclusion of Mr Shaw's address was hailed with a sense of relief by the majority of those present, his speech being characterised throughout, as haying neither head nor tail, and in consequence an' Utter failure. Letters to hand from Mr. Wakefield's committees in the Grey Valley convey the strongest assurances as to the very large measure of support the candidate will receive amongst the Grey Valley minen£ Strong and active committees are working sedulously, and the proper steps taken to defeat the dodges being resorted to by the other side. The two following letters were published in the Grey Argus of Saturday last, and will speak for themselves :— Sir,— ln your issue of the 24th instant there ia a report from your own correspondent at Ahaura, having reference to Mr. Shaw's meeting at Nelson Creek on Saturday evening

j last. Your correspondent, who is quite I an adept at misrepresenting facts, states , that Mr. Ellis was hissed at the meeting ! referred to. • Now, Bir, allow me to state that this is a direct falsehood, the hissing jcame from myself and another. We hissed Mr. Shaw, and not Mr. Ellis. We cansider we were quite justified, in doing so, after we heard the charges made by Mr. Ellis, and the unsatisfactory manner they were replied to. We are of opinion that Mr. Shaw, after the manner he has treated Mr. Ellis, should hang his head with shame, and go tjaok to where he came from, and take your 1 own correspondent with him as carpet bagger' and man-of-all-work. The district would be rid of a nuisance.— F am, &c, Bobbbt Potts. Nelson ureek, April 24, 1883.— Sir,— Would you kindly allow me, space to contradict a statement appearing in today's Argus, in regard to'the Ellis-Shaw grievance, wherein your correspondent would make it appear Mr. Ellis got hissed when he was demanding- an explanation from Mr. Shaw. Allow me as one of the party that was guUty.pf such a breach of etiquette that it was Mr. Shaw it was intended for, and none knows better than your own corresßondent.^l am, &c., Much as the tyunedin Herald affects to dislike Mr Wakef eld, it aeems to have hardly less relish for Mr Shaw as a candidate for Inangahua, as will be seen by the following, which ia the introductory portion of its article of the 19th instant, and which was carefully kept out of the extract given on Saturday last. "It is somewhat unfortunate that no really suitable candidate has offered himself for the Inangahua electorate. - Through the resignation of the late* member,. Mr Weston, the constituency has lost a useful member for the district, and one whose experience in the House and general business capacity would have proved <if great value as a legislator. The contest is likely to rest between Mr E. Shaw and' Mr E. Wakefield." We may remark tnat tlie Duriedin Herald is edited!' by the " pertinacious carpet-bagger" who represents Nasebyin Parliament, *nd in 'view, of the recently, resuscitated remarks of the . Timaru Herald concerning the hon. member in question, and which have, been attributed to Mr Wakefield, it not hard to understand, the attack, >. >: '
