UNITED ALPINE.
The crushing ol 40 tons, trial parcel from the surface reef was completed on Monday last, but the stone did not realise a sufficiently satisfactory return to warrant the directors in at present continuing to send the quartz to the mill, but it will be further tested during the present month ; with this object the manager is now commencing to cut into solid reef. At No 6 level, a distance of between 60 or 70 feet remains to be driven to finish the present contract, and as much better country is now being encountered than heretofore, the end of the present mouth should see the work well on towards completion.
