LYELL MINING.
Lyell Times.
Friday, June 15.
There is no news of importance to record in mining matters for the past week, with the exception that the general appearance of the stopes within the Croesus Company's mine is of a very encouraging nature, the reef continuing the full average width reported last week, viz., from 1 to 2 feet in thickness, and carrying payable gold. At the United Alpine mine, the manager has started a stope over the surface level, the stone in the
level having given out, the block driven on apparently being only a large spur, the main body of the reef being apparently futher to. the west, which it is intended to prove by extending the stope just mentioned. At. No. 6 level moderate progress is being made, the' country being very changeable. From the United Victory, Day Star, Victor Emanuel,. United Italy, and Time Will Tell, there is no change to report, although good progress is being made with the several works in hand... The. Sydney Company, whose lease adjoins that of the Croesus Company, on the northern boundary, are about commencing operations. Hands are engaged clearing site for tunnel, for which tenders will be called at an early date, Having regard to the excellent prospects of the Croesus mine, the Sydney should very shortly become a very valuable pro-
perty.
