Oira Wellington correspondent telegraphs a short summary of the Annual Report upon the Goldfields of the colony, by which it is shown that the gold yield of the colony for the past year has fallen off considerably, Eeefton being the only district showing an increase. The Report, we presume, is made up to the 81st March of the present year. From the annual volume of statistics issued by the Kegistrar-General, Wellington, and compiled up to the 81st December in each year, we find that the production (export) of gold for the three periods, 1881, 1882, and 1883, was 250.6880 Z., 230,8980z., and 248,8620z. respectively. It will thus be noticed that up to 81st December of last year the mining industry exhibited no sign of decadence, but, on the contrary, a very healthy increase, and it is just possible that when the annual statistics giving the results up to the close of. the present year come to hand, the figures will be equally, if not more, satisfactory. In the case of Inangahua alone a very large increase may be expected, as something over a hundred head of stampers will be added to the crushing power of the field before the end of the year, besides which, many batteries at a standstill for the past six or eight months, will be in active operation:
