LYELL MINING.
(Lyeli. Times.). CECESUS. Fkiday, July 20. The general appearance of tins mine continues of an encouraging character, and stone of rich quality continues to be obtained in the different faces. As soon as crushing is in full swing, the necessary number of hands will be put on and the supply of quartz kept fully up to requirement. Over three hundred tons are already to grass, and the mine is thoroughly well opened up, so that with the body of reef exposed to view there is little danger of the demand exceeding the supply. Good progress is being made with this company's level, although the heavy rains of the past week have somewhat retarted operations. UNITED ALPINE. The contractors in No. 6 level finished up on Saturday last, and the directors have now let a further contract to the same party to extetid the level 100 feet, or until striking the reef. According to survey the lode should be found something under the above distance. Work on the surface level has been discontinued, and an attempt will be made to sink upon the stone from the point where the reef is exposed on the surface. UNITED ITALY. The usual progress is being made by this company's hands. No fresh discovery is reported. VICTOE EMANUEL. The contractors for driving south from bottom of winze have already got a good face on their work and the general appearance of the face is of a satisfactory nature. UNITED VICTOKY. This company have under consideration the desirably of letting on tribute the block of stone at present exposed in th» mine, between the intermediate and No. 2 levels. It is also likely that a contract will shortly be let to extend No. 2 level a further distance of 2(>o feet A general meeting of the shareholders was held in Dunedin this week but the result of its deliberaiions has not vet come to hand. . . j
