INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

« The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday evening last, 25th July, 1883. Byrnes, Craig and Williams. Present, the Chairman, Messrs Feehan, Correspondence Inwards. From G. Barman asking sanction to the transfer of contract for the maintenance of Black water road, and from D. J. M'Kenna on the same subject. Kesolved — that the contract be transferred from D. J M'Kenna to G. Barman. From the maneger of the Homeward Pound Company, Boatman's asking if the Council were prepared to appoint a competent person to superintend the working of the diamond drill. Proposed by Mr Craig, seconded by Mr Byrne and carried — "That the manager of the Homeward Bound Company be informed that the Council will appoint a competent person to superintend the working of the diamond drill on behalf of the Council. From T. Lecher and others asking the Council to make certain improvements in Shiul-street, so as to effect a free flow of drainage from their premises.

Resolved that the Engiueer be empowered to act in the matter. | From F. Board man drawing the attention of the Council to his account. Proposed by Mr Williams that Mi Boardnian's letter be not entertained. Resolved that the application ..of P. Hunt for refund of £10 depysit on the Black's Point road be refunded. From Bernard McTSTeill and others requesting the Council to place protective works at a certain "point near Baigent's land, on the Left-hand Branch. Kesolved that the application be not entertained. From Town Clerk, Wellington r& tratei pipes. From G. Stewart, requesting grant oi Ll2 to enable the trustees of the Hauipden Cemetery to clear off stumps from the enclosure. Resolved that the application be granted. From E. Shaw, re County matters. From the Minister of Public Works declining to proclaim the track from Reefton to Big River a public road. From Connington and McLeod, asking compensation for removing slips from theii contract on the Rainy Creek road. Resolved that the letter be not entertained. From Blakely and Molloy asking to be compensated for clearing slips off their contract for No. 2 section JUainy Creek road. Matter referred to Engineer to repori upon From Albert Olsen asking Council to alter road sajwjpnot.to.in.terf ere withJuji property. ? Proposed by Mr Brerinan, seconded ty Mr Craig and carried : ' 'That tolls be erectec at, M'lnroe'a, Little Grey, and a M'Geady's, Square Town, the former t( be called Little Grey toll-gate, the latte the Square-Town toll-gate, the scale o charges to be the same as those charged a; present at the Ahaura and Arnold toll gates, within the Grey County. This re solution to be publicly notified." Proposed by Mr Williams, seconded ty Mr Craig and carried.—" That Mr Hesloj receive 12£ per cent on the amount of th< Miners rights within the County for tin ensuing twelve months, provided he com plies with the same conditions as on the late occasion." Proposed by Mr Crennan, seconded bj Mr Craig.— "That this Council requesi the joint action of the Councils of Grey West-land and Buller, in urging on th< Government the necessity of subsidising the maintenance of the main roads, anc that a letter signed by the Chairman o: those Counties Represented to the Mm ister of Publ# Works, by Messrs Fit& Gerald, Seddon; Petrie and Shaw, show ing the reasons why such subsidies shoulc bo granted." Proposed by Mr Williams, — " That th( toll-gates be sold by public auction ai Reef ton,- on the 25th August, and thai the scale of charges be, publicly notified prior to that date."
