Government are considering the question of the establishment of a system of federal quarantine, in favor of which resolutions were passed at the recent Intercolonial Conference, The owners of the immigrant ship Allanstran, which arrived from London on May 2nd, have been fined £500 for breaches of the Immigration Eegulations, and the owners of the ship Ellora, which arrived on June 11th, with immigrants from Plymouth, have been sentenced to pay a penalty of J6250 for a similar offence. Latest accounts to hand from Cassamicola show conclusively that nearly 2000 persons were killed by the recent earthquake, and that fully 1000 have received injuries of a more or less I serious nature. * j Capetown, 80. Intelligence has been received here from Port Elizabeth that the I hcenix Park informer, James Carey, was shot dead yesterday on board the steamer Melrose by a man named O'Dounell, who had b«en a fellow-passenger <with him from London. The attack was a very sudden one, and Carey died instantly of the wound received. Perth (West Australia), 30. •The steamer Pathao has arrived here from England, and it is stated that among the passengers are the Pheenix Park informers, Cavahagh, Smith, Murphy, and Kelly, travelling under assumed names. The news, however, is not yet confirmed.
