We publish oh another page the programme of the furthcoming auinmer race meeting. Mr James Campbell, ,M,D. .Ch.M., announces that he wil} commence practice in Boatman's on. Wednesday next, 15th instant. Mr R. J.'Scoltock, who for many years has been connected with sharebroking in Reefton, has commenced business on his own account in the Exchange Rooms, Broadway.
The attention of the public is called to i the extensive auction sale announced by Mr G. C Bowman, af the residence of *V . " H. Jones, Esq. The sale ia fixed fori Saturday, the 25th instant. A meeting of intending shareholders in the Reefton Permanent Building Society will be held in the Oddfellow's Hall to-morrow evening, when the newly framed rules will be laid before the meeting, and shareholders enrolled. Mr G. W. Moss sharebroker, has taken the offices in Broadway, formerly occupied by Mr J. Stevenson, auctioneer. The premises are centrally situated, being next door to Mr Cohen's, stationer, and have undergone extensive repairs. . ... _ . The Oddfellow's ball on Friday evening last was not so largely attended as on gome former occasions, but proved a very enjoyable re-union. The supper arrangemenjts.were very good and the caterer, Mr Kater, gave the fullest satisfaction. The music by Messrs Richards and Kater was very effective^, We learn that Mr W. H. Jones and Mr A. A. S. Menteath have entered into partnerahipas barristers and solicitors, and purchased the practice of Mr Wm. Perkins, Greymouth. Mr Jones . will leave Reefton on Tuesday . week, for the purpo£f of -conducting the business in Greymouth, Mr Menteath conducting the business here. :We have to acknowledge the receipt of the first number of the i News," a journal of science and art, published by the well-known firm of Batson and Atwater, 8 Bond-street Sydney. Like all the works issued from the establishment of that firm, it is artistically got ■up and a marvel of excellence in typography. The "Industrial News'' has risen from the ashes of the "Colonial Printers Art Journal," and being more cosmopolitan in tone, establishes a better claim to support. Its pages will be devoted towards the encouragement of literary and artistic excellence, and being, so far as we are aware, the only distinctive publication of the kind in the Colonies, will no doubt meet with the support it deserves. It is to be published ' monthly, the annual subscription being 10/-. • If there is any dependence to be placed ' upon the intelligence conveyed this morning in our telegrams from Christchurch, the sun will very shortly set upon the diamond craze irt Canterbury.
