REEFTON PERMANENT BUILDING SOCIETY.
A public meeting of those wishing I to become shareholders in the Eeefton j Building Society was held in the Oddfellow's Hall on Tuesday evening last. Mr J. McSherry was voted to the chair. The chairman explained the steps taken since the first meeting when it was decided to form the soeiety. The Provisional Committee then appointed had met and framed a set of rules which were namely a transcript of those of the Nelson Building Society. The report of the committee had been prepared, and, together with the rules, would be now read. Mr Chattock, secretary pro tern read the report, which on the motion of Mr Norcnanby was adopted and the rules were then read over. On the motion of Mr Lewis seconded by Mr Quigley the rules were adopted. A share list was then opened when about 130 shares were subscribed for by those in the room, and deposits paid. The names of several other persons who had requested to be enrolled were also taken down, the whole representing close upon 2QO shares. Mr Potts moved that the Provisional Committee with the secretary take the necessary steps to have the society registered under the Building Societies Act, 1880. The resolution was seconded by Mr Mulvay, and carried. On t!ie "motion of Mr W. Dunn Messrs Lewis, Potts and the chairman were authorised to sign the rules on behalf of the society. The chairman was appointed temporary treasurer, and directed to open a trust account at the National Bank of New Zealand, Limited, Eeefton, in the name of the society. The secretary • was empowered to call the first general meeting of shareholders as soon as the registration of the society was complete. The meeting then adjourned with a vote of thanks to the chair.
