A tidal-wave was experienced at Angir, on the coast of this Island, and caused the complete destruction of the place, and great loss of life. • Recent volcanic eruptions on Cracatoa, and marine disturbances have completely changed the aspect of the Straits of Sunda, and the navigation of the passage is now attended with great danger. Hong Kong, 29. A force of two thousand Chinese troops has. been ordered to Canton, in view of the state of affairs in Tonquin. Sydney, 30. The New South Wales Government has concluded a mail contract with the Orient Company for a fortnightly service of thirty-nine days, commencing with a steamer leaving Melbourne on the 2 1st September. •Received August 30, 2.40 p.m. Melbourne, 80.
