Nothing further has transpired regarding the negotiations which are still proceeding for a settlement of the Franco-Chinese difficulty in Tonquin. After their interview with Earl Granville Marquis Tseng and M. Waddington left Waliner Castle for Paris, for the purpose, it is believed, of carrying on negotiations on the basis suggested by the British Minister for Foreign Affairs. Lo* don 15. Arrived — Ships Brier Holme, from Lyttelton, May 80, and Stirlingshire, from Lyttelton, June 14. (Beceived September 18, I*ls p.m.) London, 17. The cargo of frozen meat on board the steamship Cuzco, from Sydney, arrived in good condition. The cargo of mutton by the ship Opawa, from Bluff, also arrived in good condition, but the quality of the moat is inferior to previous shipments. The first portion of the cargo was sold to-day at 6|d. to 6|d. per lb.
News is to hand that the ship St. t Leonards, bound to New Zealand with i immigrants, foundered in the Channel, " after collision with another vessel. < All the passengers aud crew of the St. j Leonards have been lauded at DaitI mouth. . O'Donnell, who is charged with the ' murder of James Carey, Irish informer, has arrived at Plymouth from the Cape, and will shortly . be placed on trial. Paris, 16. Challetnel Laconr,. Minister of Foreign Affairs, has received his conge, and will be replaced in tliat position by Ferry, President of the Council of Ministers. The removal of Challemel Lacour is deemed an indication that the French Government desire to pursue a policy of peace.
