♦ (from our own correspondent.) Auckland, 5. The inquest in connection with the late tragedy at the asylum was held before Dr. Goldsboro to-day. W. and C Mills, sons of the deceased, and G. Schnell, were among those present. The coroner, in the course of his summing up, said it was a case of deli crate murder. It was not manslaughter, for Schnell had de liberately made his mind to murder someone, and he did so. The law was quite imperative, for the man was not responsible for his acts, yet the verdict of the jury must be returned against him, and it would be for the Colonial Secretary to decide what should be done with him. The jury at once returned a verdict of wilful murder against Anthony Schnell. Dunedin, 5. Scott and Edwards commenced their 24 hours match at 10 p.m. At midnight I dwards had gone over exactly eleven miles, and Scott was two laps behind. At eleven o'clock Scott had been three laps ahead. The first mile was done in 10 minutes 15 seconds, Scott being two laps behind. There are twenty-two laps to the mile. There was an atcendance of 400 or 50 > people. Later At 4 o'clock this morning Edwards had walked 31 miles 13 laps, and Scott 31 miles. At I*3o p.m. to-day Scott's record was 73 miles 6 laps ; Edwards, 70 miles 6 laps. Scott is regarded as a certain winner. At the Supreme r ourt to-day Joseph Newton, who was accused of burning a number of books and papers, the property of the West Harbor Borough Council, of which he was Town Clerk, was found guilty. His Honor held that the evidence showed prisoner fancied he had i een wronged by the Corporation, which had discharged him, and had committed a wanton, though unpremeditated act. '

Court to-day, and remanded till Monday, on the application of the solicitor for the defence, on the charge of stealing a theodolite, the property of J. R. Thorpe, surveyor. Te Aropetera was liberated on bail, himself in £5 i'O, and two sureties (Colonel M'Donnell and Major Kemp), in £250 each. Wellington, 6. J. C. Redmond, M.P, is advertised to leciure at the Theatre Royal on Friday and Saturday next, 12th and 13th < >ct. The Resident Magistrate's Court was occupied all day yesterday hearing the charge of arson against Mullen, who is alleged to have set tire to a boardinghouse owned by him, with intent to defraud the Hauseatic Insurance Company. The case was adjourned until Tuesday next. A second Jcckey Yhib was initiated at a meeting ifeid last night. The senior club holds its meetings at tho Hutt course, ten miles from town, and the object of the new club is to secure a course near I town on which to hold meetings.
