♦ (from our own correspondent. ) Auckland, 16. The City of New York, with the English . mail, arrived at 10 o'clock this morning. At a meeting of the Hospital Committee it was resolved to expel, one patient for drunkenness. Two other cases are to be investigated. A man named Shaw was killed at Henderson yesterday by a cart falling on him. Timaru, 15. At the R.M. Court to-day C F. Bowden, late clerk in the N. Z. Grain Agency and Mercantile Company's employ, at Timaru, was commi ted for trial on six informations, charging him with embezzlement. Napipr, 15. Snow fell at the Spit yosterday. This is unprecedented. The heavy storms and cold weather of the last few days have done some injury to lambs. During the storm of Saturday a trolly, with two men, was blown over an embankment on the railway, and a coach was upset on the Pa bane Beach, but no one was seriously injured. Dunedin, 16. The Jessie Redmain has arrived from London, 97 days out. On the 11th September, during a strong southerly wind, with a mountainous sea, three men were engaged in making fast the inner jib, when a heavy sea knocked them oft the jih-t oora, but nothing' could be done to save them. They were Robert Kelly, John Lawson, and Richard Farmer. The dast named was a native of Blenheim John White committed suicide by jumping into the river Clutha at Ettrick. He had been drinking. Kumara, 16. W. X, Redmond addressed a large audience at the theatre last night on "Irish Poets," concluding with a short farewell to the people of the West Coast. His Excellency Bar Hugner, Austrian Ambassador, who arrived per Wairarapa this morning, was conveyed to Kingston by special train. Wellington, 16. For refusing to give evidence in the Magistrate's Court to-day against their captain two sailors were sentenced to one week each. They said they preferred going to gaol to appearing against the captain when they had to go to sea again with him. Between £200 and £300 was raised at Redmond's lecture last night.
