Dennis Kearney, the leader of the " Sandlotters " and agitator-in cheif against the Chinese upon the Pacific Cuast, came on to Chicago abputj^wo: weeks ago as a delegate to someiabor convention called in the interest of the Working clases, but was refused a seat in the convention. From cMcn^o he went to New York toateud tlw Central Labor Union. Somehow, the manangers had heard of Dennis, and closed their doors against him. Then Won" Ching Foo, the editor of the ' Chin seAmerican, challenged Dennis to mortal combat. Dennis refused to answer the Chinaman's communication, because 11 it wasnotcouchedin properlanguago." The Chinaman now says that if Dennis had occepted his challenge he intended to give him his choice of weapons from chopsticks to potatoes or Kurpp guns. Poor Dennis ! Once he was able to cause the Pacific Coast to trem: In by a nod of his pate. Now the worliiu^ men disown him ; a Chinaman calls him a Coward and polti'oon, and nobody is found to shed a single tear for him.
