LYELL MINING.
(Lyell Times.) Friday, October 19. Mining news for the past week is of the most meagre description. The Croesus Company's battery resumed crushing operations on Tuesday, and will be kept constantly going till the end of the month upon stone from No. 2 level. There is no material change within the mine. — The usual headway is being made with the of the United Alpine No. 6 level.— The Great Wonder Company are still opening up their ground southwards, but no important change has taken place during the week. — The Italy Company's cross-cuts are being pushed ahead with satisfactory progress, and quartz should shortly make its appearance. There appears to be some probability that the Caprera Company's affairs will come into a little more prominence shortly. A gold bearing leader about 4in. thick has lately been found at a point on the lease in the rising ground, above Eight-mile Creek, and not far from the United Italy boundary. It is traceable for three chains, has a northerly trend and westerly underly. The formation carrying the stone is of a most promising nature — sandstone composing one wall, whilst the country on the other side is very much bx*oken and burnt like in appearance, and carries a good deal of mineralised matter. Operations will be resumed shortly.— The United Victory No. 2 level extension is being advanced with good progress. One denned wall is being carried in, but no body of reef has yet shown itself, although such may now be not very far ahead, the nature of the country being decidedly favorable. ' ' '' '''
