The tenders at JG9S/12/6 will teceive 6 per cent of the allotments, and tenders prove (above) that price will receive in full, The ship Mirzapore, bound from London to Melbourne has run ashore at Boulogne. The captain and crew landed safely, but the vessel's position is critical. Received October 27, 2.10 p.m. London, 26. The death is announced of Captain Mayne Reid, the well-known novelist, aged 65. It has transpired that the French Cabinet recently proposed to the English Government that as reparation for the treatment of the Rev.. Shaw in Madagascar they should award him one thousand pounds as compensation, and make a suitable apology. The prosposal has been under consideration by the English Cabinet, and it has been decided that the French offer should be accepted. The promoters of the New Guinea Company have written to Lord Dei* y that he has entirely mistaken the objects they have in view. These are, they state, purely peaceful, and for trading purposes. They ask his Lordship to accord them an interview so that the intention of the company may be fully explained. Melbourne, 28.
