GREAT WONDER.
Frida /, October 26. A great improvement i3 manifest in the prospects of this mine. After working for some time to the south of the tunnel with nit any material improvement- upon the first prospects obtained — the lead haiug difficult to trace owing to the ex ceedingly loose and b'ofeen nature of the country— the -hands on Wednesday set in to the north side, with the result that a most encouraging prospect was got. Although no distance, in this direction has yet been driven, the stata within* which the gold is confined shows a regular formation, the hanging wall particularly being clearly defined, notwithstanding the exceptionally soft nature of the ground, which will require close timbering. The "run" or lead, or whatever/it i may be termed is composed of an admixture of clay, cement, quartz, and peculiar colored slate, a very large pqreen age of iron being also present. The face shows a width of about three feet of gold-bearing stuff, which besides containing a most excellent prospect of loose gold, also carries a good percentage of tne precious metal in the solid slate and small broken quartz. The hands are now repairing a paddock ■ wherein to stack the dirt, and it is n- ■ tended to enter into negotiations with the United Alpine -Company for the use .of their battery o reduce a parcel, which will be got out without delay. Should the prospects improve according to present expectations, a speedy revival iu mining circles may be look d. forward to in this district. operations *■' are to "'he commenced very shortly,- This lease is end on and partly overlaps ' the Great Wonder lease, and 'iu view of the improved prospepts of that mine, will also speeedily take a leading .position.
