The body of a man named Joseph J Sielley, who has been missing since j Thursday last, was found in the river this morning hy a dragging party. He was with his wifn and brother-in-law at 9 o'cloik on Thursday evening, and left ostensibly to get some supper beer, but nothing had since been heard 6f him. He came from the Bnller, where he had previously been an hotelkeeper, and afterwards was in the employ of the Harbor Board. It is not known whether it is a case of suicide or accident. > o cause can be assigned for the former. An inquest will be held. Dunedin, 8. A fire broke out at 1 o'clock this morning in Halton, King and Co.'s confectionery factory, Hanover street. The front part of the building was completely gutted. A small quantity of stock was saved. Christchurch, 8. A-.bonfc 3 o'clock this morning Mr Jas. Waltham's brewery was discovered on fire. The city and railway fire brigades promptly turned out, but the wooden portion of the building was entirely destroyed. The damage is estimated at £3!.'00. " During the past few days a Skeleton Army has been orgauised in Christchurch. Its members have been parading the streets in opposition to the Salvation Army. They carry a black flag with a skull and cross bones, and the motto "Blood and Murder," and "No Surrender," on it. Several skirmishes have occurred between the two armies. Kumara, 8 Emanuel Bowden, a miner, slipped into the sludge channel this morriiug and was carried right out, a distance of 25,000 feet, along with the tailings.
