MINING NEWS.
[From otjr Mining R porter] Saturday, November 17. The following ave the battery returns for the past week : — Keep-it- Dark. --2400zb of amalgam from 196 tuns of stone. Welcome. — 5200zs of amalgam from 75 tons of stone. Oriental. 83ozs of amalgam for the week. (Reported). LANKEY'S CREEK CEMENT. The affairs of the company remain ia abeyance, and in the ordinary course of things the order for the compulsory winding up of the company will be made absolute at the sitting of the District Court to be held on the 26th instant. The directors mel about ten days ago when it was decided to make a final appeal by circular to the Duuedin shareholders, in order, if possinle, to avert the disaster o£ liquidation, but there has been no time for replies yet. It is possible, therefore, that the petition may ie withdrawn before the day of hearing comes round. BOATMAN'S LOW LEVEL. At a meeting of the directors held this evening Mr Watkins, of the firm of Johnston and Watkins, was appointed surveyor and civil engineer to the company for a period of twelve months. The machinery will be ready for a trial run in the course of a few days. GLOBE COMPANY. The half-yearly meeting of shareholders being fixed for- Friday, 80th instant, the general cleaning up at the battery will have to take place next Saturday, and in order to economise time it has been decided to run thecattery up to that time. The usual stoppage for the week's scraping of the top plates was therefore dispensed with this week. The whole of the machinery works well, and stone is coming forward plentifully. FIERY C OSS EXTENDED. Fully sixty tons of stone were put in the paddock during the week, the quality of which is quite equal to the last parcel crushed. Ihe mine looks well, and there is every prospect of another good crushing before Christmas. EUREKA COMPANY. Up to yesterday the driving in the incline tunnel continued hard, enabling the hands to make only 13ft for the week. To-day, however, it is reported that there are signs of the country softening, ia which case the average
will be soon brought tip. It is a satisfaetory feature of the workings that the drainage, which it was at one time thought would be an impediment, has not caused the slightest inconvenience or hindrance. The drainage for twelve hours after heavy rain has never exceeded more than one tankf all, and as the drive has now been in beyond the point, affected by surface leakage, the water drainage question is entirely disposed of. The directors met. to-night to consider the tenders > sent in for driving 600ft of the. incline, and eventually, that of Crabband party, at 88s lid per foot, was accepted. The company will provide the rockdrilling' machinery, and have the control and direction of the machinery. The contractors have a strong party, and will push the work ahead energetically.
