At Christchurch a manufacturer has recently received a letter from one of the Salvation Army converts, enclosing postage for goods which he confesses to have appropriated while in the manufacturer's service. Auckland, 21. Further particulars regarding the wreck of the barque India are to hand. The India was bound for Kockhampton, and had on board the following cargo : 27,000 feet first class sawn timber, 8300 feet first class dressed timber (shipped by the Hokianga Saw-mill Company.) The rest of the cargo comprised 80,000 feet of timber, con sisting of pieces intended especially for tho construction of tallow vats, and was consigned to the Meat Preserving Company, Rockhampton.

There was Capital weather fir the show to-day, but the recent floods prevented a great number of exhibits coming forward. Air Clove, of Oamarn, took the principal honors in shorthorn stock, and Messrs J. M'Farlane in Ayreshire; Mr M'Master, of Oaniaru, took the champion prizes in merino sheep ; Mr Juo. Reed, of Oaniaru, took the 20 guinea cup for the ten best sheep for refrigerating purposes. Waktganui, 21. The lad Eose, brought up on Thursday last, on a charge of setting fire to the fence, stealing a pair of boots, and doing damage to school property, came before two J.P's. again this morning on remand. Two medical attendants gave an opinion that the boy was not responsible for his actions, one doctor stating that he attributed the cause to developmental changes to which a boy was liable at his age. The bench dismissed the- criminal charge, and ordered a fresh chai-ge of lunacy to be brought under the " Ecsident Magistrate's Act." Wellington, 21. Applications fov the appointments of lawyer, Town Clerk, City Surveyor, and Assistant Surveyor, under the City Council of,- Wellington, were to be lodged at the Council Chambers by fou> o'clock this afternoon, and up to three o'clock there were received 17 applications for the position of Town Clerk, " 20 for that of City Surveyor, and 12 for that of Assistant Surveyor. The applications will be dealt with at to-nights meeting of the City Council, and will probably be referred to a committee.
