The attendanpe **t the Industrial Exhibition was also large. Mr E. J. Lei, u.H.R. for Selwyn„ who had been ill for some time, died this morning. Wellington, 17. The inquest oh the body of a newly borne infant, of which Kate Boylan, a domestic servant, was the mother, was I concluded at the morgue yesterday j evening. The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder by some person or persons unknown. An information has been taken out against Kate BoyJau, for the murder of her infant haughter. The young woman, who ib still an in male of the hospital, will be ' brought up at the R.M. Court as soon as she is sufficiently recovered, The Minister for Lands (Mr Rolleston) and Mr Mitchelson, returned from the South to-day, by the Takapi>na. The N. Z. Shipping Company havereceived cable advices that the meat by the B ritish Queen arrived in good condition. Among the payers of New Zealand property tax are several English peer* and peeresses who own property w this colony. The list includes* tho Duke of Manchester, the Earl and Countess of Denbigh, Lord Littellton and others. The total receipt of Property -Tax up to last night amountod ie round numbers to £247,000.
