The Government steamer Stella arrived in. Port Chalmers at an early hour this morning. She left Wellington at 1 p.m. on the 16th iust., for Campbell Island, in search of the missing crew of the schooner Sarah W Hunt. , She arrived off the Island at 10 p.m. on the 20th, and at daylight on the 21st searched round the island, and put into North-west Bay, »-ut owing to the heavy sea a crew could not land, and she then steamed round to the North-east Bay, and searched there. A complete search of the bay was made, but nothing vas seen of the missing men, or their boats. She then proceeded to Perseverance Harbour, and found oue of the boats crews, comprising the second mate and five men, named Michael Crawford, Martin Turney, Thomas Wittle, Alexander Henderson, William Heteveg, and Samuel Huber. They were all very ill, aud quite unable to stand, owing' to their feet being blistered and swollen. They were taken in the whaleboat on board the Stella. After searching the Island they found no trace of the othf-.r boat's crew. The Stella then sailed for the Auckland Islands, it being thought there might be a i-hance of finding them. When they left the schooner they had no compass. She reached the Auckland Island on the 23rd, aud searched Comely Harbor and Camp Cove, and visited the storehouse, but found no trace of the missing men. Slwteamed to Sandy Inlet, and on landing found that the storehouse had been robbed, but thei'e were no traces of any castaways. Proceeded on to Sarah's Bosom, and found the storehouse there had also been opened, and its contents taken. Captain Gray is of the opinion that both houses had been plundered by the same persons. At Sarah's Bosom he fouud the cooking pot which had been left with the clothing and provisions in the storehouse at, Sandy Inlet, on the last visit of the. Stella. After a careful and strict search had been made, and finding no traces of the other boat or crew, the Stella left for Port Chalmers at noon on the 24th. Auckland, 26.
