♦ (from our own correspondent.) Auckland, 28. A destructive fire broke out on the Mount Eden road, at 9 o'clock to-night, near the scene of the late' fire at the shop of Wr James, grocer. Owing to the defective water supply the fire was only arrested after tHe destruction of five residences and three shops. The total loss is between £4,000 and £5,000, of which about £2,500 is insured in various offices. The origin of the fire was caused by a tenant's carelessness in leaving a fire burning after going to bed. . - .
