MINER'S RIGHTS AND RATEPAYER'S WRONGS.
•-■ ' • ■ ■■c"r° ."*»■ . ■ r*,': (To the Editor, Inangahua Times.) Sir — If any ione-" wants a good receipt for Irish stew let theui study. the list of .. miners rights published in Ihe Inangahua Times March, 10th taken out the last day of the last year, and they can get the .full igredients. Rumour says ' a "gentlemen took out a good dose of the same decoction previously and made presents of them. What a generous little man. But. where does the sugar come from ? Is it .the sums voted , for increase of salaries that the recipients are too conscientious to accept so they devote -it pro bqw publico. Oh philanthrophic recipients,? Th'eri again, is the Inspector of Miners Rights placed in a y billet -merely' to' "persecute" Chinese, aud to collect those rights has to take a Constable with him to serve suihi«oiis at the expense of the. Government, and then receive a botfuSOVer amount of the fines inflicted. Or is he supposed to be impartial in his favours, und serve aU classes alike ? But that would not suit the book of the existing Council^ the Chinese, being aliens, cannot vote, and its only the section we call "ours" that must have votes, who, if they want or can't take them out, we will take them out for them. But the next time we ask money from the General Government would it not be nice to receive for answer ,l You cannot want money for you have a revenue, but will not collect it, for fear of .losing your petty offices, which you know you could not hold if you done your duty. . I am &c,, Cook. Reefton, March 12th, 1884.
