The Inangahua Times, PUBLISHED TRI-WEEKLY. FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 1884.

The annual meeting of subscribers to the Reef ton Hospital was held at the Council Chambers, on Wednesday evening, April 2nd, 1884, Mr Brennan in the chair. The Reports of the Committee, and Surgeon Superintendent, also the balance sheet were read and adopted. The following gentlemen were nominated and elected as the Committee for the ensuing year :— Messrs P. Brennan, G. C. Bowman, J. B. Beeche, C. Cohen, W. G. Ceilings, J. C. Craig, J. Connolly, T. Lee, C Macquarrie, R. Patterson. J. Steele, P. Twohill. A meeting of householders was held at Mr David Duncan's homestead on Monday 31st March, as authorised by the Nelson Board of Education, for the purpose of electing a School Committee. Mr M'Neill, junr, was elected Chairman of the meeting. After the notice calling the meeting had been read, nomination of candidates was proceeded with, when the following were nominated : — Messrs David Duncan, George Doig, James Mclnroe, John Fitzgerald, G. Barman, J. F. Johnstone, J. Phelan, J. Connera, E. Countanche, J. Petidergast, W. Wyndam, R W. J. McNeill and A. M'Hardie. r Stephen Taylor was appointed scrutineer, and the ballot was taken, with the following result :— M'Neill, 28; Mclnroe, 17 ; Doig, 15 ; Pendergast, 14 ; Duncan, 8; M'Hardie, 7 ; Barman, 4; Johnstone, 3; Phelan, 2. Conners, Fitzgerald, Wyndham, and Countanche polling none. The first seven wore then declared duly elected. At a meeting held shortly after R. W. J. M'Neill was unanimously elected Chairman of the Committee, and J. Pendergast, Secretary. Resolved " That a report of all meetings be forwarded to the Inangahtja Times for publication. A vote of thanks to the Chair, and the meeting terminated. , A special meeting of the Reefton Permanent Building Society was held at the oifice of the secretary on Tuesday evening last. Present Messrs Potta, (chair) Lewis, Sampson, M'Sherry, Na^el, and Joice. The principal business was to elect live directors iii the room of five who retire by rotation. The candidates elected were .Messrs Nagel, Joice, Potts, Dawson, and Sampson, who complete the number of ten directors. It was decided to change the regular monthly pay-nights of the Society from the second Wednesday in each month, to the second Thursday in the month. \ proposal to reduce the quorum of directors from live t«i three was not entertained. The secretary reported that in accordance with the resolution of a previous meeting, the funds of the society, after payment of all charges and expenses incidental to its formation and registration, had been placed on fixed deposit iv the National Bank. Some other formal business having been disposed of the meeting closed. It is proposed to form a Chess Club in Reefton, to meet during the winter evenings. Those desirous of joining are invited to communicate with " Chess," box 8, post office, Reefton. The Reefton Permanent Building Society, considering the short term it has been in existence, has made very gratifying progress, and a new series having now been opened, the growth of the society will henceforth be by leaps and bounds. . Although the society is as yet comparatively small in numbers, it has already accumulated a very tidy fund, and by the next monthly pay night a sura of close upon LlOO will be available for loan. This speaks well for the future success of the society. A dividend of one shilling per share has been declared by the Fiery Cross Exten- | ded Company, payable on and after Monday next. We publish tlm morning particulars of another terrible railway accident in Victoria. We are indebted to Reuter's agency for a full account of the catastrophe.
