LYELL MINING.

(Lyell Times.)

UNITED ALPINE.

Fhiday. April 10.

Mining news for the past week is meagre. At the United Alpine mine affairs are of a very satisfactory nature. The reef has been driven on north about 155 feet, and the face of late has maintained a width of from seven to twelve feet of stone throughout, with a nice show of gold occasionally visible to the naked eye. The two stopes south are also producing a good supply of stone, there being a considerable reef to operate upon all the time. An improvement is manifest at the battery this week, the return showing an increase upon the last scraping. According to present arrangements the current crushing should continue at least another fortnight. The tributers have about 75 tons of stone to grass, and are still operating upon a large block of reef. — At the United Italy's mine, similar operations to those of last month are being prosecuted viz., driving south upon tjhe reef, and crushing. No material change is reported from this locality. — The Tyr Connell No. 5 level contractors have driven about 65 feet of their contract. Occasionaly veins of quartz are encountered, and it is more than likely that cross-cutting west — which will be the next work — will develop something highly gratifying to the shareholders. — At the Lyell Creek Extended low level fair headway is being made through a hard country. — No other prospecting is at present b sing prosecuted in this district.
