(from our own correspondent. ) DUNEDIN. 31. " A deputation of the unemployed' interviewed Mayor' this morning. The Mayor said he* had received a telegram from the Premier, who was making enquiries in reference to finding employment, and would telegraph during the day. The Mayor recommended the deputation to remain quiescent in the meantime. Outside the town hall fully 200 of the unemployed assembled and claimed ft hearing as the Mayor left the building when questioned as to whether thry would take employment if found for
them up country. Several men replied emphatically in the negative. ! • Mr Driver intimates that he will '■■ not seek re-election for Hokonui. The Evening Star is to be proceeded against for contempt, for publishing an important equity case ou Wednesday last. Chkistchurch, 31. The Springston Hotel, 16 miles from Cliristchurch, was broken into last uight, and a cash box containing £200 stolen. The cash box was subsequently found empty iv a paddock uear the hotel.
