UNITED ALPINE.
Friday, July 4. The result of the last cleaning-up appears elsewhere. Owing to one of the segments in the water wheel breaking on Tuesday last, stoppage had to be made to allow of repairs being effected. Tin's was done by riveting a thick plate on the outside of the segment where the fracture occurred, and extending it the full distance between the two arms. Crushing was resumed on Thursday night, and the ballance of tbe tributors' quartz will be through the mill by to-morrow night, all ready for their final cleaning-up, — No, 8 level — North end. There is no change to report here in the appearance of the reef or the sur.xounding formation. The reef keeps the same size and shows a clean solid body carrying fine gold right through the stone. Two sets had to be put in at the face, which will finish that portion lof the level for the present ; the rise will then be started, and when that is clear of the level, the hanging-wall side, and the adjacent stone will be taken out — Leading Stope — The crossreef spoken of last week has been passed, and the main one is commencing to make again in the centre of the face, coming in strong and solid from the roof. A few feet more ahead, and the usual width is expected. — No. 8 — North end. Still carry iug a fine width of stone with every appearance, judging from the general indications and the spurs and leaders about, of making still larger. The sudden make of quartz in the foot-wall has been taken out as far back as was practicable : that remaining will be taken out when bringing up the next stope. The tributors' next operations are not mentioned as yet.
