The Inangahua Times, PUBLISHED TRI -WEEKLY. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1884.

Wo havo received the following memo, -from Mr G. W. Sampson, postmaster, Reefton :— -The House of Representatives has decided to reduce the price of Hansard to twopence per copy. As there are usually about thirty copies the price will be about five shillings per session. Any person wishing to subscribe can do so by paying subscription iv advance to any postmaster In the Colony, who will give all particulars. Early application ia necessary to secure complete file for this session. The newly erected Presbyterian Church Reefton, was formally opened yesterday morning, when a special inaugural service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Douglas, M.A., assisted by the Bey. Mr Gow. The ceremony was a very solemn and impressive one, and the congregation was very large. The afternoon and evening services were also very largely attended. During the current week there will be nine companies crushing in the Inangahua aa follows : Specemen Hill, Welcome, Hopeful, Fiery Cross, Inglewood, Golden Treasure, Keep-it-Dark, Globe and Inkerman, tho total gold production from which will reach a respectable amount. There is every reason to believe that all the batteries mentioned will be kept fully employed throughout the year. ' The recent contest at Sydney between Beach and Hanlan for the aquatic championship of the world, has brought forth a plentiful crop of side contests. The preliminaries have already been arranged for another meeting between the champion and ex-champion, to be rowed on the Paramatta river, in Miy next, Hanlan has also accepted a challenge from Clifford, to row for £500 within five months. Altogether the Sydney people will have a surfeit of their favourite sport. The " political situation " furnishea au inexhaustible topic for daily conversation in Reefton, as it no doubt does elsewhere, but it is to be doubted whether there is auy other community in the col*ray possessing suoh a plethora of unfledged politicians. Hardly a person ia to be met with in the street, but does not thoroughly grasp the situation, or who could not at five minutes notice form a Ministry that would stand against anything. Time was when the incessant burden of the song of the man-in-the street was scrip, scrip, scrip, from morning till night, but all this is now changed, and every bodys mind like that of the Laird o' Cock Pen is •' taen up wi th 'affairs o' the state." However, itis Well to seethe people thus taking an active interest in political matters. It is the first step towards the creation of a healthy public opinion, and should receive* grateful stimulus by the reduction in the coat of Mansard. " Rough on corns." — Ask for Wells' " Rough .on Corns." Quick relief, complete, permanent cure. Corns, warts, bunions. Ketnpthonie, Prosser & Co., Agent, Christchurch.
