News has reached here that the ship Lastingham, 99 days out from London to Wellington, was wrecked on Jackson's Head, at the entrance to Queen Charlotte Sound, on Monday last. Eleven of the crew were picked up by a passing vessel and landed here yesterday. Three others have since been found, and taken toPicton. The total number of persons drowned is 18.
In the House yesterday a few private bills were dealt with.
The Mines Act Amendment Bill was read a second time.
The House then proceeded with the election of Chairman of Committee with the result that Mr Hamlin was elected by a majority of 14 over Mi S toward .
The House then adjourned till Tuesday.
