INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary mo ithly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday evening last. Present, the' Cihaif man. and Messrs Williams, Feehan, Patterson* Craig aud Irving.v The minifies of the pi'evious meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence. From James Ryan re Flannigan and Kirby'B deposit. From the Mayor of Westport re mail contract. From D. M'Farlane re his tender. From Messrs Cochrane aud Gardner arking for payment of bonus offered for the bast scheme of water supply for the town of Reefton. Proposed by Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Feehan and carried, that the bonus of £50 be paid to Messrs Cochrane $nd Gardner. From the Premier, in reference to subsidies on account of the maintenance of main roads. From Mr Menteath re County matters. From Robert Wolfe offering the use of one acre of his land for fish ponds, at £1 per annum. Resolved that the offer of Wolfe be accepted. From Moss Davies re County bills, etc. From the Waimate County Council te law relating to dogs. From the Chief Surveyor requesting the Council to gravel the footpath in the vicinity of the survey office. The was instructed to attend td the matter. From E. J. O'Conor, M.H.R., stating that the Ministry would grant subsidy for main roads. From the Under- Secretary for Gold fields re subsidy towards Big River road. From A. H. King and W. Hindmarsh requesting the Council to repair a certain track in the vicinity of the Globe mine. Resolved that th« engineer be empowered to deal with the matter. From G. Perotti re promissory note of the Council. Resolved that the request of Mr Perotti be complied with. From the Under-Secretary of Public Works stating that when the estimates were passed a sum would be forwarded for maintenance of main roads. From Arthur Rowe re Mataktika ferry, and requesting that wire rope be supplied. From P. Manuel and others requesting the Council to make a portion of Brennan street. Proposed by Mr Williams seconded Mr Brennan and carried that the wire rope for lengthening the Matakitika bridge lie supplied. Proposed by Mr Patterson, seoonded by Mr Williams and carried that a street be formed, 16ft wide, in that portion of Brennan street as indicated in Mr Manuel's letter. Proposed by Mr Craig, seconded by Mr Feeban and carried that the resignation, of Mi'Barvowraan he accepted. From the Secretary of the Treasury stating that £1000 would be advanced on account of Crown lands rates. From Mrs Climo applying for charritable aid, with a recommendation by Dr Thorp that the aid he granted. c Proposed by Mr Feehan, seconded by Mr Irving and carried that a sum not exceeding £15 be granted. . j From Thomas Crnmpton requesting i rapftirs to road near his premisses. Engineer instructed to deal with the matter. From H. G.Hankin re river reserve near Black's Point, and asking per mission to erect a slaughter yard thereon. Resolved that Mr Hankin be informed that the Council regrets not being able to comply with the request. From Robert Oxly and others call ing attention to the road from the bridge to the Chinamens's, on the south side of the Inangahua. Engineer instructed to effect repairs as asked. From Timothy Pattinson and others asking for a reduction of the tax on cattle and sheep dogs. Proposed by Mr Irving seconded by Mr Williams and carried that the matter stand over for the consideration of the new Council. From the Rev T. B. Maclean and others requesting the Council to grant Mrs Plows a sum of money to build residence. Proposed by Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Patterson and carried that 15/ per we«k be voted Mrs Plows as charitable aid for the next three months. From Mr Ching requesting the removed of his name from the valuation roll in respect of sections 154, 155, 156, Broadway. From Joseph W, Parkins and others asking for the construction of a bridle track from the end of the track at the Globe battery to the Globe mine. Proposed by Mr Irving that the engineer he instructed to report as to the probable cost of the track. From J. G. Heslop requesting the Council to substitute the name of Francis McGuigan in place of that of John Quigley as bondsman. Resolved that the matter be referred to the County Solicitor, with power to deal therewith. From Bernard Rogers requesting the substitution of the name of Daniel Ferris for that of John Quigley, as bondsman. Resolved that the matter be referred to the County Solicitor, with power to deal therewith. The engineers report was read and received. • Proposed by Mr Irving seconded by Mr Feehan and carried that tenders be called for the maintenance of the road from the Buller road to the Inangahua river for a period of 12 months. The Chairman stated that M'Conachie had expressed his willingness to submit his claim for compensation to arbitration. Proposed by Mr Irving seconded by Mr Craig and carried that Mr Charles Fraser be appointed Council arbitrator to deal with M'Conachie's claim for compensation. Proposed by Mr Patterson, seconded by Mr Feehan and carried, that the Executive Committee be empowered to deal with T. Lynch's claim for compensation which has been settled by arbitration . Proposed by Mr Irving, seconded by Mr Craig and carried, that Mr Henry Lawn be appointed Returning Officer for Murray Riding. Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Patterson and carried, that tenders be invited for the making of Church-street from Walsh-street to Smith-street, and for the making of Walsh-street, from the Buller road to Shiel-street, Walsh street to be formed 40ft. and Church-street 60ft. and to be metalled 20ft. wide. Tenders to close on Ist November. Proposed by Mr Feehan, seconded by Mr Patterson, that the services of John Cavanagh as sexton of Reefton Cemetery be dispensed with. The above resolution was subse quently eliminated. Resolved that the Colonial Secretary be written to requesting that the management of the Reefton Cemetery be vested |in the Inangahua County Council, and that the appointment of the former sexton be cancelled.
