After some discussion it whs resolved on the motion of Ml 1 Lynch seconded by Mr Twohill that tenders be called for tin- work, to close on Tuesday 2nd December — Carried. From residents of B>ill«r ro;ul complaining that the elevation of the road left their promises in a hollow. The Engineer said it was imu.x-siblo to sat is F y everybody. Connolly complaining . of injury done to the truck to his coal ; mine and expressing his willingness to J accept any reasonable compensation, j The Engineer admitted that the road had been used in the construction of ; the reservoir. j Mr Williams said the road had been : useful in getting material to th« i reservoir, and would be required in the future for the same purpose. Mi* Lynch sugared that the matter be referred to the Engineer. : The Engineer explained that the Council had both used and repaired the road, and he had spoken to Mr Connolly on the subject and the latter had expressed his willingness to deal fairly with the Council on the subject. Mr Twohill said to his own knowledge the track was also used by persons going to Bourke's Creek. i Resolved that the matter be. referred to the Engineer to repertto the next i meeting of the Council. ! The Engineer reported against the application, affirming that no extra work had been perf rmed by the cou . tractors. The. Chairman said these orders were a prolific source of annoyance to the Council. It had already been determined that sin-li orders would not be recognised, and some further action in reference to these orders would have to be taken. In reply to Mr Craig the Engineer stated that no clearing had beou done ' on the line beyond that prescribed in , the contract. j It was ultimately decided to defer : the further consideration of the. sub j ject till a la'.er stage of the proceedings. The correspondence as read was received. The Chairman pointed out that it . was neoftssary to appoint a treasurer for the current year. Mr Williams proposed and Mr 0. Mr \Vi!!i:»'us rcfi-rred to some bridges on the Grey road, and said that unless something was done to them there mi^ht be an accident. The County Chairman said some of the piles of the bridge over the big Grey at the Junction had lost their hold upon the ground and could be seen to swing and rise up and down. If any thing happened to the bridge half the cost of repairs would fall on this county. A complaint had also been made as to the bridge over Snowy Creek. The matter here dropped, and he discussion was resumed upon the application ot' S:nit!i and W<ston | Mr Williams da 1 not see that the i contractors had aiy claim on the council. I Mr Craig : The Enginepr has reported distinctly against their claim ! and the Council could not go behind ' that. j Mr Williams said there was no ' doubt the contract was very cheap taken. j Mr Craig and Mr 0. Lynch said that that was nothing to do with the j Council. The Chairman said the Engineer would not write so emphatically unless he felt quite certain that the contractors had no claim. Fie did not ; therefore see that th* Council could entertain the application. He. called upon some member to move a resolution on the subject, and there being no response he himself moved that in the face of the Engineers recommendation the application of the contractors could not be entertained. j The motion was seconded by Mr Campbell a d carried. : The hairman and Mr Twohill were | empowered to sign contracts on behalf of 1 the council. Mr O. Lynch said the piece of road between Longford to Hampden was in a very had condition and urgently needed some, repairs. There was five chains of road requiring to he made, it having been washed away, and the remainder required repairing. It was a portion of the main road and comprised about a mile and a half. About ten tons of goods passed over the road weekly, and it would he very shortly impassable. He moved that the Engineer report upon the work as early as possible and that tenders be called for its construction upon specifications being prepared. — Carried. Mr MuGinley moved that specifications bo prepared for reducing the grade and ; widening the road from the Gorge to the Eureka tunnel. He said there was a lot of traffic on the road and the woik was urgently needed. The chairman desirod to point out one matter which Mr M'Ginley did not seem to know, namely that the liabilities existing and contingent of the Council at the present time were about £9,000 so that it was necessary for members to make their claims as modtM-aie us possible. Mr M'Oinley said his claim would not swull the liabilities of the council beyond £200. He would consent that the work to be done should not exceed £250, Five turns-out were absolutely needed on the road, as owing to the sharpnesa of the \ turns collisions between drays could ! hardly be avoided. i Mr Twohill seconded the motion which was put and carried. In reply to a question the Engineer stated that he had not yet reported upon the track to the Globe. The following tenders were then opened : —

Bbennan Street. £ s d P. M'Guire 24 10 0 ;W. O'Reilly 27 0 0 J. King 40 0 0 j Cox £3 19g 6-1 per chain J. Phillips 30 0 0 P. Carney 48 0 0 M'luerney 27 0 0 I Murphy & Co £5 13s per chain J. Pollock ... ... 35 15 0 I The tender of P. M'Guire was ac- ! cepted. Mr Twohill called attention to the necessity of a, hand bridge over Boatman's Creek on the Ruller road below Cronadun: He said the work was muoh needed and its cost would not be heavy. The Engineer in reply to a question said the bridge could be put up for about fclO. A trestle bridge would be the cheapest. . Mr Twohill moved that tenders be called for the work work, which was seconded by Mr M'Ginley and carried. Mr Twohill nuggested that something should be done .-is quickly as possible to secure the crossing at Larry's Creek. i Mr Craig call attention to the necessity of water tables on the main street at Black's Point. The drainage from the upper ea^of the town now lodged in a

lumber of gardens. He also referred to the condition of the dray bridge at Black* Point. The last flood ha.l carried away ionip of the protective work and unless tie injury was sueii to the bridge would I c in great danger. The Engineer was empowered to effect she repairs referred to. Tv ie >ly to a question the Engineer •ai ' *he m >Uer was a small one. The Chairman n ■• ort <1 that the present [insiM iv ,it the Coumy account was as ful o>vi :— Dr balance 4547, to which w >nlvl have to be added '912 for the actMitutsawaiting payment, making together 5459. This was exclusive of liabilities iiu-iruing from construction, of water v 'ply works. A number of accounts ;i ii.untin^ to 912 were then presented an i passed for pavmeut. The Council then adjourned.
