':■:■■ Oamaru/19. Shortly after 2 this afternoon a tire was discovered in the forehold of the ship Marl borough, which has nearly completed the loading of frozen meat for London. By means of the ships engines and hose the fire was quickly extinguished. A quantity of frozen meat was damaged, bat the vessel suffered very little injury. On a careful investigation being made it was iound that only about 40 of the sheep had been injured, and some of these very slightly. Only about 20 have been rendered useless. The fire was confined to a portion of one of the wooden divisions, which in some unaccountable way took fare, and it was only those sheep which were close to this division that were injured. A careful scrutiny has been made of the mutton, bin as the temperature of ; the chamber notwithstanding the fire, apparently only smouldered kept about 18 degrees below freezing, all that was not in actual contact with the tire suffered no injury whate\er. The damage is covered by insurance.
