Warnings have been made by the authorities that an attempt would be made to blow up the Law Courts, British Museum, and the Ba >k of England by dynamite. Extra guards have been placed at the buildings, and precautions bave been taken to prevent any attempt being made. Men suspected of complicity in the recent explosion have been arrested by the police at Derby. New York 30. The several State Legislatures have passed a vote expressing abhorrence at the recent dynamite outrages in London, and to render penal the hatching of plots for similar purposes in the States. Berlin, 30. The International Conference on the Congo question has come to agreement with reference to certain regulations for dealing with the future annexation of territory in the Congo Valley and the adjourning country. This rules has been accepted in accordance with the views of the British delegates. At the sitting of the Reichstag today the report of the Committee on the question of granting subsidies to a line of German mail steamers trading to Australia but not to Samoa was reported on the seoond reading. Received February 2 2.30 p.m. Sydney, 2. Hanlon, Clifford and Beach are now in active training for the approaching acquatic contest, and are doing good work. Cooktown 2. News has reached here that the German war steamer Marie has been stranded near New Britain. Received January 2, 1.30 p.m, Cairo, 31. Wolseley telegraphs that the vanguard of Major General Earle's column yesterday reached a position several miles from Berti, where tlie enemy are concentrated. Earle. hopes to be able to deliver an attack ou 3rd February on the Mahdite's position, which is reported to be a very strong one. Received February 8, 12.50 p.m. London, 2. Deacon Bickersteth of Gloucester has been appointed to the Bishopric of Exeter, vice Dr Temple, appointed to London. Canon King, of Oxford, succeeds Dr Wordsworth as Bishop of Lincoln. Major General Buller has only been temporarily appointed to succeed Major General Stewart in his command in the Soudan. Received January 3, 5.15 p.m London, 2. The Prince of Wales has gone on a visit to Cannes, in the South of France. Gilbert, an Irish- American, who has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the dynamite outrage at the Tower of London on the 24th ulto., was to-day re-examined at Bow Street Police Court. The evidence adduced showed that the prisoner had been in the habit of frequenting the Tower, and that he had in his possession loaded detonators. The enquiry was further adjourned.
