A singularly clever escape from a prison was recently reported at Kingston. Canada, when a prisoner named Williamson Johnson made his escape from the Kinston Penitentiary. He made a dummy and placed it in his bed in the cell slipped out of sight, and to the South wing and worked his way between the dead walls to the roof. At the top he struck a stone and cement wall, and broke through it and got upon the. roof. With the aid of a bed cord he made his descent to the yard, passed the guard-house, spliced a ladder, scaled the wall and was free. He was not missed until the next morning, and when the dummy, was discovered, and did not rise when ordered, the guard reported to the deputy warder that the convict was dead.
