OVERSTEPPING THE BOUND OF MOPRIETY.

fTo thu EDfroTOKjroAmTA Tnn. Bir.— At an adjourned hearing <>f the election petition at the Resident Magistrate's C<»urt on the 21st hist., the County . Solicitor gave utterance to words in open i Court which n<> gentleman would he guilty ! of, even should the assertions made by 1 him he trtie, instead of being an utterly ! false anl malignant libel. He, Mr ! Lynch, sai4 the other side viz.. Men- 1 teath's supporters, scattered miners ri«;hu broadcast amongst b'tttle-washen, c>N>ks, loafers, and the rag tag of the country. j Now we must assume that he was alluding 1 to those legitimate voters who were sum* I moned by his party to answer to the I charge m{ voting for Menteath. The said rag-tag of the country who were snbpoened are : H. Francis, W. Shaw, Fairbairn, Archer, Pretty, Arch Campbell, R. Dykes, C. Dowsing, J. Wills, F. j Smith, Faler, J Ward, Simpson and j M'Quarne. Now if these be the rag-tag j of the country, we are a very fortunate ! community indeed, and I think that i cooks, bottle-washers or any of the rag tag 1 alluded to who work for an honest living, and [ay their way, are equally as respectable and as good ci Miens as the County I Solicitor, and we need not travel very far to' find some of those who pride in loftier avocations do not pay their way as honestly as the cooks and bottle washers do. I am etc., Jack Blott.
