There is not mnch information (says ' a contemporary) available respecting the Russian fleet in the Pacific. In 1878 the Russian Government bought j three swift steamers from an American | firm, converted them into cruisers, and j renamed them the Europe, the Asia, j It will be. remem- j Auckland Harbor about three years | ago, «nd we are informed that a party of officers came on shore and had a good look at the guns, one of which is now to be mounted. Ther« is also vnother ship of thn small class called the Zabiaca. They are all of light draught and hij»h speed. Two vessels, named the Raslojnik and the Najes dnik, have also been in commission in commission in the Pacific. The former is built with iron, sheathed with wood about 16iu thick ; the latter is a composite vessel. There are a number of other vessels, but we have not present any particulars respecting them. On the Rnssian Pacific Coast there are fortifications at Nicolaieff, at the mouth of the Amour, Pn.ropaulovski, and Vladivostok.
