" Catarbh of the Bladder." — Stinging irritation, inflamation. all Kidney and similar Complaints, cured by " Buchu-pabia." Druggists. Kempthorne, Prosier & Co., Agents, Christchurch.

THE BAD AND WORTHLESS, are never imitated or counterfeited. This is especially true of a family medicine, and it is positive proof that the remedy imitated is of the highest value. As soon as it had been tested and proved by the whole world that Hop Bittprs was the purest, best, and most valuable family medicine on earth, many imitators feprung up, and began to steal the notices in which the press and the people of the country had expressed the merits of H. 8., and in every way trying to indnoe suffering invalids to use their stuff instead, expecting to make money on the good name of H. B. Many others started nostrums put in a similar style to H. 8., with variously deviaed names in which the word " Hop "or " Hops " were used in a way to induce people to Relieve they were the same as Hop Bitters. All such pretended remedies or cures, no matter what the style or name is, and especially those wLh the word" Hop " or " Hops " in their name or in any way connected with them or their name, are imitations or counterfeits. Beware of them. Touch none of them.

A BKILBTJL SURGICAL OPR RATION. The American Ambassador at Vienna, Mr. Kasson, has lately forwarded to his Government an interesting account o< a remarkable surgical operation lately performed by Professor Billroth, of Vienna, which wooMerful to tell, consisted in the removal of a portion of the stomach, involving nealv one-third of tbf organ — and, strange to aay, the patient recovered— the only successful operation of the kind ever performed. The disease 'or i which this operation was performed was cancer of the stontach. attended with the following symptoms -.—The appetite is quit poor. There is a peculiar indescribable distress in the stomach, a feeling that has been described as a faint " all gout " sensation j a sticky slime collects about the teeth, especially in the morning, accompanied by an unpleasant taste. Food fails to satisfy this peculiar faint sensation ; but on the contrary, it appears to aggravate the feeling. The eyes are sunken, tineed with yellow ; the hands and feet become cold and sticky— a cold perspiration. The sufierers feel tired all the time, and sleep does not seem to give rest. After a time the p itient becomes nervous and irritable, gloomy, his mind filled with evil forebodings. When rising suddenly from a recumbent position there is a dizziness, a whistling sensation, and be is obliged to grasp something firm to keep from falling. The bowels costive, the skin dry and hot at times; the blood becoming thick and stagnant, and does not oiroulate properly. After a time the patient spits food soon after eating, sometimes in a sour and fermented condition, sometimes sweetish to tbe taste. Oftentimes there is a palpitation of the heart, snd the patient fear* he may have heart disease. Towards the last the patient is unable to retain ■ny food whatever, as the opening in the intestines becomes close, or nearly s«. Although this disease is indeed alarming, sufferers with the above-named symptoms should not feel nervous, for nine hundred and ninty-nine cases out of a thousand have no cancer, but simply dyspepsia, a disease easily removed if treated in a proper manner. Tbe safest and best remedy for the disease is Seigel's Curative Syrup, a vegetable preparation sold by all chemists and medicine vendors throughout tbe world, and by the proprietors, A. J. White (Limited), 17, Parringdon road, London, 8.C., or the wholesale agents, Kempthorne, Prosser ft Co.'s New Zealand Drag Co. (Limited), Dunedin, Christohuroh. Wellington, snd Auckland. This Bvrup strikes at the very foundation of tbe disease, and drives it, root and branch, oot of the system. St. Mary»street, Peterborough November 29th, 1881. Sir, It gires me great pleasure to inform you o< tbe benefit I have received.from Seigel's Syrup.- I hare been troubled for years with dyspeptia ; but after a few doses of the Syrup I found relief, and after taking two bottles ol it I feel quite cured. I am, Sir Tours tmly, Mr. A. J. White. Willian Brent,
