Id the House last night the Financial Statement was delivered by the Colonial Treasurer, and occupied over two hours. There was a full attendance of members and the public, the galleries being crowded. The Speech has created feeling of deep dissatisfaction in commercial circles, and amongst the members of the House, and the fiscal proposals especially in regard to a duty on coal may cost th«* Goueriraent their seats. After- the delivery of the Statement the House adjourned till Tuesday, when the Government promise to propound their financial proposals, which are expected to . meet with a vigorous opposition, and an adverse vote. A meeting of members in favor of free trade principles is called for Monday, The Nels*n and West Coast members to discus matters of importance to their districts have also convened a meeting for Monday. Mr Menteath has interviewed the Government re matters concerning the Reefton local hospital, the construction of a bridge over the Left-hand Branch of the Inangahua, and for a subsidy towards main roads. The Government proposes to introduce an Amended Mines Act empowering a reduction of mirfers rights, business licenses and rent on gold mining leases. Tlits deputation from Greymouth re the Cobden'bridge have not arranged satisfactory terms with the Government as to a continuance of the works. The Estimates for the year 1885-86 were laid upon the table last night. The total appropriation under the ordinary revenue account is L 3,372,132,, 372, 132, against L 3,819,043, 819,043 last year, the amount in appropriations for 84-85 being L 3,789,209,, 789, 209, permanent appropriations for the year, LI, BOO, 107, beiug an increase of L 157, 518. The total annual appropriations was L 2,172,026*., 172,026*. The Legislative branch shows a reduction of L 40 ,195 ou last year's vote, there having been two sessions last year, and the honorarium is being voted under a special Act and placed under permanent, appropriations ; in the Colonist Secretary's department there is a decrease of L 20.000 in the vote. The reduction in the Colsnial Treasurer's department is L 3,376 ; Department of Justice shows a reduction of about L 2; 000, and the Postmaster- General an increase over last year's expenditure L 16.716. The Education vote shows an increase of (20,700; Customs, LI, 500 ; Mines, L 80 0; Public Works, L 40.00 0; Defence, L 26,274. The total permanent appropriations (land fund account) under special Acts of the Legislature amount L 32,000, as against L 25,000 last year. The appropriation for Minister of Lands shows a decrease of L 44,100, while the appropriation for the Colonial Treasurer (Rates Crown and Native Land), show an - increase of L 2,258. The total appropriations under the Land Fund of L 207, 925, as against L 243 ,281 voted last year (of which amount L 208,118 was expended) The total appropriations for services chargeable on the consolidated fund shows an increase of £117,744, the total for this year being LI, 180,068. The amount expended of last year's vote was L 3,997,227., 997, 227. The appropriations for services chargeable on the Public Trust Office L 4,275, being a slight iucrease on lust year. It is stated the amended Armed Constabulary Act gtvA9 the police the right to vote at parliamentary elections. In anticipation of the changes in the tariff considerable withdrawals of dutiable goods took place here during the day, amounting to nearly L 6,000, principally on spirits, tea, and sugar. The Goldfields' Committee met yesterday for the first time and appointed Pyke Chairman. > Niusox, 20. 8om» time ago the Aniseed Valley Copper Company sent a parcel of ore to Hamburg, and the returns now to hand show that it yielded 30 per cent, of copper, and silver at the rate of 6oz to the tou.
